Need Alternatives To Shaving (HERE ARE 7)

Alternatives to shaving

It occurred to me the other day that not everyone shaves their face nor or they inclined to. but what happens when the dreaded peach fuzz begins to grow or that little 5 o clock shadow begins to clearly show. Now that is a problem is it not. Not everyone likes shaving their face simply because it can be pretty difficult to get a hold of. From the right technique to shaving in the right direction. And dealing with your skin once you’re finished. It can be a lot.

So, I went and found a few ways you can get around shaving your face. Here’s what I found.

Alternatives to shaving face?

The alternatives are waxing, threading, dermaplaning, laser hair removal, sugaring, tweezing, and electrolysis. Each type of hair removal has its good and its bad. But are all effective for removing hair off your face and serving as an alternative to shaving your face.

How do you get rid of facial hair without shaving?

You can use of the 7 types of hair removal. Either though waxing, dermaplaning, sugaring, tweezing, electrolysis, and laser hair removal.

Alternatives To Shaving Your Face

Let’s go over how to apply each hair removal method

Waxing

Waxing is an effective and very affordable hair removal method either by doing it yourself or traveling to a salon for waxing services.

Make sure your hair is about ¼ of an inch in length. It can be longer that if you have it. During the waxing session, the salon worker will spread the soft or hard wax on you, then pull it off via a waxing strip.

Now you have silky smooth skin. The results can last long also. You have up to 4 – 6 weeks also.

It can be painful, since you’re literally yanking the hairs from out the skin.

Is it worthy of replacing shaving?

Absolutely. Although its unlikely to wax your face. The trend is growing in todays society. Before people would only wax certain parts of their face.

Next up is threading….

Threading is a tedious and painful process; this can be applied to removing facial hair but is mostly meant for eyebrows and shaping them up. When applied to the face it supposed to help shape up the beard or moustache. It can also be applied to your forehead, or cheeks. It can take up to 20 minutes when applied to your eyebrow.

The process is done by a hair removal specialist that uses a thread to yank rows of hair out from your skin. Just to repeat, it is painful. But the results speak for themselves. It can last up t o4-6 weeks. Its not that expensive.

Unlike waxing, threading doesn’t remove a fine layer of skin. you see, waxing can also be thought of a sort of exfoliation.

Is it worthy of replacing shaving?

Yes and no. it would depend on which parts of your face your mostly like to shave. If it’s the cheeks and around the mouth area, then stick to shaving. But anywhere else or if you want to remove a small area of hair somewhere on the face, then go with threading. But the biggest thing that gives it its unworthiness is that it is time consuming. You will be laying in a chair for quite some time before you’re able to leave.

Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning just involves using a flat razor that resembles a scalpel to scrape off the top layer of your skin. it also has the benefit of removing skin cell buildup and helping your skin with any hyperpigmentation. Demaplaning is only able to help with peach fuzz not a full beard. A five o’clock shadow can even give it a hard time. and it doesn’t remove hair at the root like waxing does.

The pain isn’t that much to worry about. The results can last for up to 4 weeks. Now the price is something you may have to think about. The price of $100 can break the bank, if you know what I mean.

Dermaplaning can remove hair from its root and can run into problems with coarse hair.

Don’t necessarily have to go to a salon so you can do it at home. Can be applied to your cheeks, jawline, upper lip, anywhere on your face. Some of the tools will have guards on them preventing you from cutting yourself. But there is a drawback, you won’t be able to cut close to the skin.

Is it worthy of replacing shaving?

No, its not. Dermpalaning isn’t going to help with you have a thick 5’o clock shadow. Its only meant for removing some peach fuzz. So, if you only deal with peach fuzz, then be my guess and go for it. It would be a worthy replacement of shaving. But if your problem resides outside of dealing with peach fuzz then you might want to start shaving.

Alternatives To Shaving Your Face

Laser Hair Removal

Probably your best and permanent option as an alternative to shaving your face.

A laser is used to zap the hairs pigment, destroying the hair follicle. It damages it and kills it. It’s mostly used for hair on the lips and chin area. You might have to go for 6 treatments, but after every session, you can expect up 95 percent hair reduction.

Not much pain to worry about. The pain being felt can resemble a rubber band snap. Although you can also experience anywhere from a pinch to a small amount of heat.

When done right, the results might be permanent. No more hair. Isn’t that great.

It can be pricey and can cost up to 350 depending on where you get the session done. But it can also be done at home. The devices can cost just as much as the sessions or more. Some can cost up to 379.

The sessions can be quick lasting only but 5 minutes. But the amount of sessions might be up to 6 or eight sessions. And those sessions are spaced out over the course of 5 to six weeks.

If you don’t plan on doing it yourself then it would be in your best interest to go to a technician that has a license for this sort of stuff and have them help you.

Is it worthy of replacing shaving?

Absolutely but the price can be of putting. Meaning once you take a look at the price of lasering your facial hairs either via salon or by yourself. You’re going to want to stick with shaving. But the result can be permanent hair removal. No more shaving your face. Wasting mornings shaving. Spending money on razors, shaving cream and after shave. So, give it a shot but save up your money first.

Sugaring

Sugaring involves a paste made from sugar, lemon, and water to gently remove hair. its similar to wax, the consistency of the wax. But the similarities only are with the consistency. Where it differs is remove a fine top layer of skin. It’s done by hand and removed with a flick of your wrist.

The paste grabs the hair at the beginning of the stage growth. The pain is that much to worry about.

The results can last up to a month or if you’re lucky it can last even longer than regular waxing. Waxing and sugaring both grab hair at the base of the root but waxing can have a tendency to break the hair follicle at the surface. So now they can grow back faster.

The price of sugaring can be low or a bit pricey. Depending on if you do it yourself. You’ll pay for the items needed to make the paste which can run you about $15. A trip to the salon can run you about $60.

It can cost more than tradition waxing when visiting a salon but can be less irritating on your skin when compared to traditional waxing.

Is it worthy of replacing shaving?

Yes, it can be a worthy replacement. Also, the fact that the ingredients can be found around your home makes it easy to make and provides you less irritants that can hurt your skin. Pain can be a problem for you since there isn’t necessarily pain being felt when your shaving, unless you shave over a cut, rash, pimple, or mole (which you shouldn’t). it takes hair from out the root and can leave you smooth less a lot longer than shaving could. So, try it out.

Now we have tweezing

I’m willing to bet there was a time when you plucked your eyebrow, nose, or chin hairs at some point during your time on earth. Either by accident or on purpose. The method is simple. You remove individual hairs by yanking them out with a tweezer. Majority of the time tweezing isn’t done as single method it usually is an addon with another method. Being used to remove ingrown hairs or stubborn small hairs.

The pain is something you’ll have to worry about. But overtime you can become used to it. The pain can be unbearable because of the plucking from the base and also your plucking in the direction of one’s hair growth.

The results can last for up to six weeks only because your yanking the hair from its root

The price isn’t much to worry about. Only ranging from about $10 – $25.

Tweezing isn’t an efficient way to remove facial hair. Only small parts. Because your yanking the hairs individually.

Its always recommended to shower and exfoliate before tweezing. It helps with opening the pores and can relieve some of the pain. You only tweeze hairs that fall out the shape of your eyebrow.

Is it worthy of replacing shaving?

Hell no. The pain alone isn’t worth it. You should only be tweezing if your shaping up your eyebrows. Not if your used to shaving your face and looking for an alternative.

Last but not least Electrolysis

This is one of the only hair removal methods that can be placed in the realm of permanent. Meaning once applied hair growth is something you won’t have to deal with.

The process goes like this, a needle probe is put into your hair follicle is destroy from taking electricity at a micro level current. But the needle must be placed in each hair follicle you want destroyed.

The hair that is destroyed will become loosened and then taken out by tweezers.

But it may take multiple treatments to destroy the hair follicle completely. A lot of it will be left alive.

These types of treatments can be used on any part of your body. So, it makes it a perfect alternative for shaving your face. It also doesn’t matter what skin type or tone you may have.

Depending on the area being treated, the treatment can last from 5 minutes to 1 hour.

The pain that you will endure is going to being a medium to high level. But that would depend on your pain threshold. It may feel sharp since a needle is going into your hair follicle. Because of this you may feel deep pain or a tingling nerve feeling.

The results are permanent. But every now and then a few hairs may grow back later with in a few years. Because of this you’ll have to spend money to get a few touchup treatments.

The cost can be from $50 or more since the electrologists charge their clients based on the amount of time spent on the treatment and not the area of the body part being treated and not the amount of hairs being removed.

When you plan to go this route, you’ll have to stop shaving for a few days. Doing this allows the electrologist to use your hair as a way to track the follicle. When you’re done in order to soothe the area treated you can use a cold compress, aloe, or witch hazel. Any further irritation can be avoided by stop doing any exercise for a day and staying out of the sun like a vampire for 2 days. Reason is because the sun can bring on inflamed skin and get even further inflamed, then you might get hyperpigmentation. If you have darker skin, hyperpigmentation is a definite reality.

Is it worthy of replacing shaving?

Absolutely. The results are permanent. So that alone is worthy of replacing the shaving. Each hair follicle has to be targeted by itself. Multiple treatments will be needed. But its not a quick fix. You don’t just go into the bathroom in the morning and start doing electrolysis. And it can be more painful than the other facial hair removal methods I’ve listed.
