There is no exact reason as to why pubic hair is curly. But There are theories. Theories such as the one by Brian Steixner, MD, Director of the institute of Men’s Health at Jersey Urology Group in Atlantic City. He claims that pubic hair is curly because its better at trapping the pheromones in your sweat glands when they are released in the groin area.

But on the other hand, a dermatologist Marc Glashofer claims that the texture of pubic hair is curly, thicker than other parts of the body because it as a buffer. This buffer can prevent friction when you’re in intercourse. Intercourse could cause abrasion of the skin along with rashes. Also, it can help protect against bacteria and pathogens.

The hair type on your body is determined by the follicle shape. When you have a flatter follicle, the hair will be curlier. This is can all be seen on a microscopic level. Hard to see with a human eye. During adolescence, the sex hormones, androgens as we call them are pushing through your body and turn your hair follicles in your pubic region to flat curly hair follicles.

Pubic hair is coarser than the hair on your head. There is no match for the hair under your trousers even if you had the curliest and most stringent scalp hair. this is why pubic hair poses quite the strange challenge.

Your smell

Certain urologist theorizes that the smell that comes from pubic hairs is a result of the hair trapping pheromones in the pubic region. And this may be a reasonable theory since there was a time when human beings were primitive and animalistic that they are now. Mating back then probably had to do with a lot of pheromones (sniffing and smelling). You know like dogs. Also, nonverbal communication should’ve been big back then.

The Friction

Now the idea with the friction of pubic hairs is that it serves some biological function, by creating a nice little layer that can help reduction the friction on your skin while engaging in sexual intercourse.
