How To Shave Your Pubes(THE ULTIMATE GUIDE: MEN & WOMEN)

how to shave your pubes, how to shave your pubic region, how to shave your butt

You knowv so much about shaving your head, face, legs, but what about down there. How to shave your pubes? Over the years, removing pubic hairs through shaving or waxing has become widely accepted by people such as yourself.

Especially women. In the 50’s, 60’s, and even 70’s, having pubic hairs and removing them wasn’t so common. Until around the 80’s. and now it’s basically the norm. if you have pubic hairs you might be looked in a funny way these days.

Shaving your pubic region using a razor is still one the most preferred methods of hair removal for that area. It is cheaper than waxing at a salon, or laser hair removal. Shaving your pubic hairs can be one the hardest physical tasks one can take to improve upon ones look.

Just because it’s hard to get down there. And hard to maneuver that razor in those nooks and crannies. Whether it be for a personal reason, or it’s a work-related choice (modeling or otherwise).

It can be quite daunting but also rewarding. This guide should be followed down to the “T” if you want a shaved penis or shaved vagina. One wrong move and you’ll most likely end up cutting yourself, hell, you might cut yourself by accident anyway.

And that small cut can become even more problematic in days to come. So be patient. Get what you can out the guide. And “UNDERSTAND” that there is no shortcut in shaving your pubic region. Once enough time goes by and you get enough practice, this will become usual practice.

Genital Shaving F.A.Q

Tools required for genital shaving

  1. Grab a comb (you might be a little bushy and trim it down. But you might have to comb it out)
  2. Scissors, or my favorite the Remington PG6025 (these clippers are more for your beard and facial hair but it can still be used to trim your pubes. I prefer you buy some pair of clippers (it can be a personal groomer, hair trimmer, or barbers clippers)
  3. Shaving cream, gel, or oil. I prefer gel or oil. So you can try out Gillette Fusion ProGlide Sensitive 2 in 1 Shave Gel or Tree Hut Bare Moisturizing Shave Oil
  4. Unscented moisturizer or try out Lather & Wood Aftershave balm
  5. Cortisone cream. I prefer Vanicream 1% Hydrocortisone Anti-Itch Cream. You might get itchy. Beware the smell is pretty strong

A razor. You can use a multi-blade razor, the Solimo 3-Blade MotionSphere Razor or WEISHI Nostalgic double-edge razor

How to shave your vagina

  1. First open the pores
  2. Exfoliate
  3. Trim the pubic hairs down to a good hair length
  4. Get a good razor
  5. You shaving cream, gel, or oil

The steps up above are the exact steps before you actually start to shave. Down below I dive into each step, then I’ll go into the exact steps into shaving your vagina.

How to shave your pubes

Open those pores.

You can first start by steaming your pubic area for 3 – 5 minutes. The steam works to soften the hair (something we need to happen when shaving). Trust me, it helps a lot if you do this. It also works to soften the surrounding skin also. Not necessarily what we need, but its best for us. You can steam it by standing in the hot shower for a few minutes.

Don’t have to do anything special. You can continue washing your body as you regularly would. The longer the steam touches you, the softer that hair would be. If you don’t want to steam it. What I like to do is take a towel, heat it up with hot water. Then rinse it out and place it on top of the pubic hairs.

Exfoliation is NEEDED!

Once you’re done steaming. You can start by exfoliating. I’ve written about this before I believe in other guides. Quite simply because it’s so important. The best part is you can do this while in the shower. Take your washcloth, loofa, or whatever works best for you.

Grab an exfoliating body wash and gently scrub your pubic area with it. The sole purpose of the exfoliation process is to just remove those dead hairs that may get clogged up in your razor. It also brings the razor closer to your skin’s surface.

Trim it before shaving!

If you have a lot of pubic hairs, obviously a razor can’t get through it all. So, the only thing you can do in this situation is trim it down a bit. At least till your pubic hairs are ¼ in inches or just a quarter inch. Longer hairs get caught in the razor and get pulled.

This hurts! And longer hairs can cause you to go over the area over and over. Trimming your pubic hairs can help you get a better smooth shaved vagina. It’s best if you sit on the toilet or in the bathtub while you do this. You can use a body groomer; hair trimmer or some sterilized baby scissors can work.

When working with a razor it is almost guaranteed. This comes after your done shaving. Fortunately, there are creams for this sort of thing.

Need a GOOD RAZOR!

Nice and sharp is the way to go. I mostly use a double-edge razor because my husband uses them and swears by them. And, because the multiblade razors are expensive. With the double-edge razor, I always get to use a sharp razor blade that is inexpensive. Never use an old razor or a dull one. They’ll end up causing you more problems. The dull razor obviously isn’t going to cut anything.

And God forbid you ever deal with tugging of the hairs because that is exactly what’ll happen when you use a dull razor. All that tugging causes irritation. Sharp razors can result in you cutting yourself. It always happens. So just wash properly also before you start.

Shaving Cream, gel, or oil. Get some

Shaving without one of these can and will cause razor burn. I know there’s dry shaving but that’s with a different tool. Although you can do it here with a razor. I wouldn’t recommend it. Most of these gels, creams, etc. are manufactured in a way that supposedly lifts the hair from the skin making it easier for the razor to cut them.

But when all is said and done the razor just needs some lubrication, so it can glide over your skin. That’s what is needed. Lubrication! I prefer you look for shaving cream or gel with some sort of antibacterial feature in them. Some have shea butter or Aloe Vera. That’s what I would be looking for. Do you really want a gel or cream with a bunch of chemicals in them that you can’t pronounce?

Tips to consider when shaving your vagina

  • Shave in the direction of your hair growth. This means going with the grain.
  • Also, when you’re shaving make sure to pull the skin. That way it almost creates a makeshift flat surface that’ll make it easier for the blade to cover.
  • You want to pull the skin up right above your vagina and shave downward toward the ground. Work in small sections and go slowly.
  • Also, it’ll help if you put one leg up, so you can get to those difficult spots around the pubic area.
  • Lifting one leg can provide you with that view of which areas you need to target.
  • Sometimes you’ll have hair on your labia. You want to pull the skin taut also. And go slowly. Since the skin on the labia can be sensitive. Just hold the edge of your skin down there. Where you’re shaving it’s important to try and create a flat surface.

Let the blade do its work

Don’t ever press too hard or go too fast. See when you’re shaving it’s important to go at a steady pace, not too slow or fast. So, all the hairs can get trimmed. You let the weight of the blade do its work. If you’re pressing down hard, then it means that your blade may be dull. If you’re going fast, then it means you’re rushing. So, don’t.

Problems with itchiness

I understand every woman will have problems with itchiness down there. Especially with shaving. This is one of the problems with having a shaved vagina. Because, when those new hairs start to grow back, it becomes a serious problem. I mean a serious one. Buts that’s one of the risks of shaving down there. And some women’s bodies may be different. Others get really itchy down there after they shave, and others don’t.

But if you do, the only solution is to moisturize properly. I mean you need a good and gentle moisturizing lotion. Something such as Cetaphil. And once I finish that last stroke with the blade, I’ll wash off any of the shaving cream, gel, or oil residue and immediately slap on some moisturizing lotion.

Then I’ll apply the lotion again either before I go to bed or once I wake up. So, let’s say you shave in the morning, then the next time you apply the lotion is right before you go to bed. If you shave at night, then the next time you apply the lotion is once you wake up.

Pubic Hair Removal Designs

But the cutting of pubic hairs may have started in the United States dating back to the 1960s. Why? Because of the rise of bikinis.

The first Brazilian was done around 1987 in a small salon in Manhattan New York yet trimming down there still wasn’t anything to go around blabbing your mouth about. Until Sex and the city(tv show) had some in one of their episodes.

Ever since waxing pubic hairs have been a stylish thing, the female pubic hairstyles and different designs have come with it. Nowadays it isn’t just enough to shave all off.

One of the ways women can cut or wax designs onto their vaginas is by using their hand and being able to angle their wrist in certain positions to get the right cut. Or by using a stencil (the easy way). A stencil is just a thin piece of cardboard, plastic, or even paper with a pattern in either design or letters for you to cut out.

Your pubic area is a very small region down there. In order to make it more efficient the design must be simple, small, and cute.

The First Steps To Take

  1. The first thing to do is start prepping the area (God, I make it sound like you’re about to perform surgery). You’ll have to trim your hair down a tad bit if you have a bush down there. Yeah, we want your bush to be defined and full of hair, but we can’t go through shaving so much of that hair.
  2. So, let’s cut it down a bit. I’d say till your hair is about ½ inches. You can accomplish this by using some form of clippers that come with a guard. Either barber clippers or body groomer will work.
  3. Now that you’re trimmed properly, now comes the difficult part. Working with the stencil. You can either make one yourself or buy one. You’ll want a well made waterproof stencil. I like to rub some very thick lotion on one side of the stencil then place it directly on top of your pubic area.
  4. I put the lotion or cream on it, so it acts a sort of sticky adhesive. So, it can hold it in its place. Trust me, you’ll want to do this because it’s no fun trying to trim your design in and having to hold the stencil in place.
  5. My old friends from back in college would use regular school glue to hold in place or they would tape it down with regular scotch tape. (don’t worry the glue won’t kill or hurt you, it’s just there so we can hold it place)
  6. Now hold it (stencil) down hard. Take your clippers and trim around the edges or outside of your stencil to ¼ inches. You can get the desired hair length by using some clipper guards.
  7. Remove the stencil. Now you can take a quick warm shower or bath (either one is fine). See, when you do this the hair gets softened by the steam. Stay there for up to 5-10 minutes. Then take the stencil and apply it back on. With the cream or glue on the other side of it.

Getting Rid of The Hair

Start with some shaving gel applied to the area you’re going to shave. Take a fresh blade and shave off the hair outlining the stencil (THE OUTSIDE OF THE STENCIL). Once that is accomplished, remove the stencil, remove the leftover hair outside of the design.

Sometimes what I like to do is wait a little while till my hair is a little dry. Take some red lip outliner or outliner in general and sort of go over the outline of the shape.

Another thing I would do is use some sort of shaving gel that doesn’t foam or get too white so at least you can still see what you’re doing. You can find a small bikini razor and use that, I’ve seen some of my friends take a safety razor or straight razor and go to work.

The smaller the better, so it can fit comfortably in your hands and make it easier for you to work on the lining. Nowadays I don’t even go that far with it. I just outline it with a barber clipper. It’s like a shape up.

Okay, the design in place. what now?

If you find that the hair that is within the design a little too much, you can always trim it down even more with some hair clippers to your desired look. I always moisturize the area also. Some unscented lotion doesn’t hurt.

Now it may be easy to shape a heart or arrow, but you want to let your creative juices flow, so why not try and make your own.

TIP:

Get a trusted friend or your spouse to help you draw a design: What I would suggest you do if you don’t want to go the route, I suggested up above is get someone to do it for you. A trusted friend or your significant other can help you. But their drawing skills would have to be up to par also.

Here’s how you could do it.

First select designs that small. I would say don’t go beyond the size of your palm. Since you’re cutting a design into your pubic hairs. You already know this area is small and depending on your body type, it could be a lot smaller or a lot bigger.

So, stick to the size of your palm. Or you can wait till you have a full bush down there. And use a tape measure to measure the width and length of your pubic region to get a very good measure of the size.

Shave your hairs down a bit like I suggested up above.

Once you’ve decided on your size, have them take an eyeliner tool and draw in the design. Now that the design is drawn, take some your clippers or razor and do the outline. It’s like a shape up when you get a haircut.

Outline.

In order to get the proper outline, have them cut a little bit around the edge of the design. So, if your design is a heart. Tell them not to cut the inside just yet. Cut the outside, right along the edges of the design.

I’ll provide this video to help you get an idea of what I’m talking about.

How to create your own stencils for pubic hair styling

Remember when I said your pubic area can be the size of your palm. At least where the hair grows. This is going to be important when creating your own stencils

  1. Get a piece of thin clear plastic. I suggest you get your hands on presentation covers. Those are the ones I use
  2. The actual place may be too big to place over your vagina, so remember when I wrote about getting a measurement of your pubic area region. I’ll take the measurement and cut out the exact dimensions on the presentation covers. If you can’t get a measurement, you can just eyeball it and take a guess.
  3. Get your design and place it under the plastic
    • But your design should be the size of your palm, so what I do sometimes place my hand on the plastic and shape a small visible outline of my hand
    • Once I see my hand on the piece of plastic. I’ll draw a circle of my palm and try to add in my design in there
  4. Now trace the design
  5. Once you’re done tracing, take a razor blade and cut the design out.
  6. Take the design and place it over your vagina.
  7. You can take regular school glue (don’t worry, it’s not going to kill you) or some lotion/cream and place it on the side of your stencil that will go on your skin
  8. Take your clippers and we will go over the edges of the stencil to about ¼ inches. I like to use clipper guards like I said up above.
  9. Take the stencil off. And start shaving off the hair outside of the design.
  10. This should be quite simple since you started cutting away the hair from around the edges with the hair clippers remember.
  11. NOW YOU’VE GOT YOUR DESIGN

A few other female pubic hairstyles to consider

You can go and do this design called faux-natural.

What I do is a little maintenance on the area but not making it look manicured.

This is how you do it:

  • You trim the hair evenly. But leave it in its current shape. Whatever length you want is up to you.
  • I like to take an electric trimmer. But sometimes I’ll settle for a scissors. Then I take a comb and use the wide teeth of the comb, push it through my pubes.
  • Then run the scissors or trimmer on top of it. This makes sure I get an even length all over. Unless the trimmer comes with a guard which can help trim at a certain length.
  • Then there is the bikini style which happens to be a triangle style.
  • This is a style that just follows the bikini edges. The shape of the bikini is the shape of a triangle. So that’s the shape well be designing.
  • I trim the hair evenly and anything that is along my legs, I shave off. That means the creases of my legs also. The bottom line is that you don’t want anything sticking out from the bikini bottom, anything sticking out of your thong.

A shaped patch

This is like a Brazilian style. Its similar because you’re cutting away any and everything but leaving just a small shaped (whatever shape you like) patch right above your genitals. You can include a little triangle or heart. Or just a circle if you like. But this is done without any stencils or anything. You’re just using your barehand.

So, to sum it all up.

  1. Give yourself a trim.
  2. Shape the leftover hair right above the labia with either a razor, wax, or depilatory cream
  3. Remove the hair.

Another style you can free hand is the LANDING STRIP

You’re going to remove the hair on the outsides of your labia. Then you want to leave behind a rectangle along the edges of the vulva.

First you trim the hair.

Then what I like to do is shape an outline along the edges of my vulva. I’ll take a ruler do the left side then switch to the right side. I use a barber’s clippers. Its similar to a barber shaping up your hairline.

Then remove the hair on the outsides of the pubic area. Either with a razor, epilator, or electric razor. I like to use depilatory cream or sugar wax.

How to Shave Your Pubes While Your Pregnant?

  1. You’ll need to get a hold of a handheld mirror, this will help you see what you’re doing. A handheld/makeup mirror is best preferred. Some manufactures even sell pregnancy mirrors or mirrors with suction cups. These come in handy when shaving on your own. It helps to catch those angles. A full-length mirror can be of use, but you’ll have to maneuver yourself to find a good position to shave in.
  2. I like to put all the necessary supplies that I shave with on the tip of the bathtub. Trust me, I know being pregnant can be a challenge to getting in and out of the tub. So, I like to have everything close by before I get in and start shaving. A mild soap, washcloth, razor, moisturizing lotion/cream and exfoliate.
  • The new razor must be sharp, dull razors cause more cuts
  • A razor extender can be of great use. It helps to get to certain areas that are hard to reach. You can insert your razor into the extender and the razor extender acts like a long handle. This can help you reach 6 to 10 inches farther than you could with your hand.
  • I like soaps and lotions that don’t have any dyes, scents, or chemicals. Some I like are shea butter lotion or something with aloe vera

Use some soap and clean off your skin and to soften up your hair. I like to wash my skin first, so ill shave right after coming out of the shower. The soaps I use soften up the hairs and can prevent infection also. It cleans the skin of bacteria so if you were to nick yourself, the possibilty of infection is low.

  1. Exfoliate your skin, this removes the dead skin cells and can help lift the hair. I like to take the lotion or cream and rub all over the area I’m shaving, once I’m finished you can rinse it all off with hot water.

    • Be gentle with your skin while your pregnant, so I would stay away from harsh abrasives for exfoliating. Some good options are a loofah, exfoliating mitt, drained coffee grounds.
    • Be gentle with the skin around your vagina. It’s even more sensitive because of more blood flow and swelling.
  1. Soak the area in warm water for about 5-10 minutes. I like to soak my body in the tub, since it’ll soften up the hairs and make it a lot easier to shave. I wouldn’t add any bubble bath, oils, or any bath bombs because I don’t know what chemicals in these items can be unsafe for me while I’m pregnant. I just want to be extremely careful and so should you.
    • You have to be careful when getting in and out of the tub. I would try to install some sort of handle on the bathtub wall.
    • It’s pretty safe to take a bath while your pregnant, just be sure that the bath can’t raise your core body temperature.
  1. While in the tub, lean back and sit comfortably when you’re on the shower seat. Shaving while pregnant will be difficult, I like to sit at an angle. So, choose an angle that allows you to reach your legs and bikini area. When you lean back, it’s a great starting position since it can move around left and right. You can also lift up your legs to the edge of the bathtub. Doing this can enable you to reach those hard to reach areas.
    • Don’t go try shaving while standing if you’re beyond the 2nd My doctor told me that my center of gravity shifted. And getting dizzier is a lot easier when I’m bending over. So, do yourself a favor and sit or lie down, in the tub.

You can either drain the bathtub and follow the next steps or you can actually shave while in the bathtub. If you want to shave in the bathtub, I like to use soap. So ill lather with soap and start shaving. Remember what I said about looking into buying some all-natural soaps. Something with shea butter or aloe vera.

  1. Alright now lubricate the skin with some shaving cream or lotion (before you do that, you can drain the tub till the water isn’t overflowing over your private areas or you can drain completely and lie in the tub just to shave for the angles and positions.)
    • You can use a bar of soap but I would use a natural soap like I said up above. If you don’t have any you can settle for hair conditioner.
    • If the water washes the lubricant away, lather up again

5.Shave your hair in the direction of  your hair growth. The golden rule for shaving is you mostly shave against hair growth but down below well be shaving in the direction of your hair growth. Doesn’t matter if it’s your face, chest, or privates.

You should always shave slow, but in this case, you have to go extremely slow.

  • If by yourself use your mirror to your best advantage to see below your stomach, if you’re lucky enough to have your partner with you then you’ll be fine.
  • Gently run the razor over your bikini area in the same direction it grows. If you don’t nowt the direction your pubes grow in, run some water on your bikini area and see which way the hair lays after its wet.
  • Keep shaving till you’re finished. wash away all the little hairs and the cream. This will prevent any irritation and itchy feeling once you have finished.
  1. Rinse off the little hairs. This will help you identify any mistakes in your work and see if you missed any areas.
    • Us the shower head to rinse off, the little hairs always stick to my skin the tub

How to use an Electric Razor to Shave Your Pubes While Pregnant

1.Gather the electric shaver, 2 clean dry towels, and a mirror. This will the tools you’re going to work with, set the area and make sure its well-lit. find a position that allows you lean back. I like to lay a towel on the bed or floor and put some pillows behind my back for support.

  1. Its best to get a cordless electric shaver, the corded ones will have you setting up your work space close to the power outlet.
  2. You’re shaving a delicate and hard to reach spot so get an electric shaver with a small head and straight blades.

2.Lay down on the towel make sure the mirror is positioned in front of you.

  • Lean back on those pillows or find a position you can comfortably sit up in. the towel is there to catch the hairs and to make cleanup easy.

3.Pass the shaver over your skin and shave in small strokes. with built-in guards on your shaver there is no need for lotion or cream and the probability of you getting a nick or cut is slim to none.

Electric shavers can be used on any part of the body without a problem. But to prevent any type of cuts, pull the skin taut before you start to shave over it.

I find that whenever I shave after I’ve exfoliated my skin, the skin becomes a little irritated so I wouldn’t recommend it. But your skin should be clean and completely dry.

Another position you can take up, is sitting in a yoga pose. back up against the wall or headboard. legs spread out. this helps you get in the inner thigh area and the corners of your bikini area.

To clear all the little hairs away. You can hop in the shower and rinse off or take a towel or damp washcloth and gently rub all the hairs away.

Get some help

You can ask your partner in crime or a close friend and I do mean close friend to help you with it. Trust me it’s a lot easier to shave your pubes while pregnant to help get those tough to reach places. You can even think of it as a bonding experience if you’re a little too embarrassed to do it.

  • You should wear some cotton underwear along with loose fitting clothes. Doing this can help prevent irritation.
  • Pregnant skin is sensitive skin. Shaving is even more dangerous while pregnant. Cotton underwear and loose clothes can help with reducing friction, ingrown hairs, and razor bumps.

Your hair will grow back, apply a moisturizing anti-itch cream. Your skin will get itchy after a day or two when the hair grows back. itching can lead to scratching and scratching can lead to…. torn skin.

Avoid any lotion or cream that is scented or dyes. Also no perfumes.

A Few Tips to Live by:

If you’ve got a whole forest growing down there then it would be in your best interest to trim the hair before shaving with a razor or electric shaver. You can even use a scissors, just make sure the children’s scissors or scissors with rounded ends so that you won’t cut yourself.

Don’t push hard with the manual or electric razor to get a close shave. Pushing too hard will bend your blade and cut your skin, and not your hair.

how to shave around your penis

How to shave around the penis (manscaping)

Now it’s time to enter the world of manscaping. But what exactly is manscaping?  Manscaping is the shaving and hair removal from the male’s pubic region. Shaving your penis, shaving your balls. That’s what it is. Nowadays men are more in tune with than ever before

Let’s dive in on how men can shave their pubic region.

1st Trim those hairs!!

First, it’s a must that you trim your hair. My husband will sometimes use a body groomer or small portable hair trimmer and trim his hairs down to ¼.  When you shave it down, it allows the razor to work better. The razor doesn’t work well with long hairs.

Sometimes a barber’s clippers can be used to trim the hair down. Make sure you use a 0 or 1 blade, and this will bring the clipper blades close together and allow for more cutting efficiency. If you don’t use a 0 or 1 blade, you can expect it to cut almost as close as a razor. We haven’t gotten to the scrotum yet, but when we get there you want to avoid using the electric razor on your scrotum.

Those type of razors has rotating heads and other mechanical operations going on. And they can rip the hairs out. Now I’m sure you won’t like the feeling that gives on your scrotum. I’m not saying you can’t. If or when you do, you must do it carefully.

Also, another reason to avoid the electric razor on the scrotum is that of the scrotum itself. The skin is too thin and may get caught in the shaver. Now that’s painful. So, avoid the scrotum and the underside of your penis.

These are sensitive areas and you may get in a whole lot of pain. So, make sure to trim above the penis, the hairs on your penis shaft. You can even use scissors to trim the hair down if you like.

Get ready to shave your penis… Assume the position.

You have to position yourself in the right spot in order to achieve the best angle to remove the hair. Remember we aren’t removing hair from your leg, or arm, this is your privates. It can be hard to reach.

So here are a few positions:

  1. You can be standing
  2. You can sit down
  3. You can lie down
  4. You can squat on the floor

Pick one. The two most men pick are sitting on the toilet or standing up.

You can also consider doing it while taking a hot bath. Right in the tub. Like the women’s version, they can shave while in the shower. Men can shave while in the tub. Or vice versa. Doesn’t really matter.

The tub provides a good source of water to rinse off the razor. Your body is in a stable position. And the heat from the water opens the pores. Sounds like a win-win situation.

The edge of the toilet is another good option. But you must be careful because if you’re using an electric razor for the first step or even a scissors. The hair will drop down into the toilet. Hair in the toilet can build up over time and clog the toilet. But this is overtime.

What you can do instead is sit over the toilet, maybe put a garbage bag over the toilet. And the hairs will drop onto the bag, therefore, there won’t be a mess and you can go on about your day. Or you can stand up and stand over your bathrooms garbage can and shave/trim it there.

You want to stand, you can stand in the shower. But when you start shaving just make sure to stand out of the way of the shower. You want to stand out of the shower because the water hammering down on your skin may water down your shaving lather.  And you’ll have plenty of water to rinse out the blade.

Got to lather up!

You can choose your favorite shaving cream and start to lather up. If you have shaving gel or oil, you can do the same with them. I always find it good to avoid the ones with menthol or heavy scents because those are the ones that always cause irritation. The reason for lathering up is to provide that sharp blade with some necessary lubrication. We aren’t dry shaving here.

Start shaving!

  • Grab your razor and start shaving but do it with light and short strokes. It’s important that the skin is taut in the genital area. That just means that you pull softly on the skin with one hand and shave with the other. And you want to pull softly upwards in order to create a somewhat flat surface for the blade to glide on. Shaving on loose skin can and will bring cuts since your shaving on an uneven surface.
  • Apply very little pressure. The trick is to have the blade do the work itself. Using the weight of the blade. If it’s sharp enough, it’ll cut. No need to press down hard.

Now I’m pretty sure you’ve heard of “going against the grain” well in this situation you can do just that. Shave against the direction of hair growth. It provides the smoothest shave. Shaving in the direction of hair growth shortens most of the hair follicle. But shaving against the grain provides more problems. Like razor bumps. And I don’t think you want razor bumps DOWN THERE!

How to shave above the penis

Pull you manhood downward towards the ground. Shave from the top of the penis on up towards your navel (bellybutton). Remember to use short strokes of the blade. And to go in the direction of your hair growth. Usually, the direction of hair growth is going downward. You can start a few inches below your belly button and shave downward toward the base of your penis.

How to shave the sides of your penis

Grab your manhood and pull it to either side you want to start shaving. Want to shave on the right side, pull it to the left. Want to shave on the left side, pull it to the right.

Use gentle short strokes on either side. You want to start shaving at the base of the penis (where the actual penis is attached to the body) and move outward. So, start at the base and shave toward the direction of your penis’s head.

NOTE: one way you can think about shaving your penis are these three words. TAUT, TIGHT, and SMOOTH.

The word TUAT, basically means to hold your skin tightly with one hand and shave with the other. If the skin isn’t taut, tight or smooth, and try to shave, your razor might snag onto the skin. This, my friend, is how you can get cut. You must focus on stuff like this. Because it’s easy to lose track and let your mind wander off, then BAMMM!! Something might get cut off!!

Now you’ve finished shaving the sides, it’s time to shave in between your penis and scrotum.

How to shave between your penis and your scrotum (shaving the gooch or taint)

This must be included in the “how to shave your pubic hair” area because I feel it is so neglected. Just like when men take showers and washing this part of their pubic region may also be neglected. But I’ve included it. Hair tends to grow a lot around this section.

So lets get to it.

Hold your penis and scrotum up. And place your razor in the middle of the gooch/taint and shave towards your body. If you can, you can lift one leg up to get a better angle. So, grab your penis and scrotum and lift it towards your bellybutton. Start in the middle of your taint and pull the razor towards the direction of your bellybutton.

Now it’s time to do the other area. The area close to your anus. Since we started off in the middle there is still more hair left behind. So, you lift one leg up, place the razor in the middle of your gooch/taint and pull the razor back in the direction of your buttocks. Remember during this whole process we are shaving with short light strokes.

Cool tip: Another way to shave this area is to do a sumo squat. This way your legs are more open and leave the perineum open. So now all you have to do is pull your penis and testicles away from the taint and shave this area.

How to shave your scrotum

How to shave your scrotum

If I could describe this process, it would just be “DANGEROUS”

It’s important to go gently and safely when you start shaving your balls with a razor.

  1. If you have hairy balls you should first start by trimming it a little. You can use scissors, but that can be dangerous, and you can end up cutting your scrotum’s skin. You can use a body trimmer, beard trimmer, or barbers’ clippers. Longs hairs and razors don’t mix well. So, trim them first.
  2. Using a new blade is very important. I wouldn’t shave my face and then start shaving down below. Simply because of the transfer of too many germs. If you’re in a press for time or just don’t have any other razor blades, you can disinfect the razor blade. A good way to disinfect the blade is to drop it in some rubbing alcohol.
  3. Before you begin your shaving. Take a hot shower or bath. Whichever you like. The hair will soften, the pores will open. Making it easier to shave the hair off.
  4. Get some pre-shave oil and apply it to the area. Rub it all over your penis, scrotum. Now rub on and lather up the shaving cream all over your pubic region. Make sure you get a good enough coat and cover every area that you plan to shave.
  5. Take one hand and pull your scrotum gently so, the skin is stretched. Since the scrotum is so sensitive, it’s important to use short and light-handed strokes. Another trick to shaving your scrotum is to run cold water on it or rub an ice cube over it. The cold temperature can tighten the scrotum’s skin and then you can shave without really having to pull it. This gets rid of the loose skin problem between the shaft and the scrotum. You just use short and gentle strokes on that also.
  6. When you extend the skin on the scrotum it makes for an easier shaving job obviously. Start to pull loosely on the skin and shave from the middle area then go out to the sides. BUT BE CAREFUL.

Things to consider when removing hair from your testicles

A few things to keep in mind when you remove the hair from your testicles.

I know you want your ball sack shaved and no hair on your testicles. Either to please yourself for hygienic purposes or to please your significant other. But be weary when that hair grows back, and you start to grow some stubble. Having all that stubble may not feel great for your partner. So, it might be something you may indulge every now and then.

Shaving is actually a form of exfoliation. It can also inflame your hair follicles and irritate the surrounding skin. You may get some form of stubble rash. This type of rash is little tiny sores that are now disturbed due to your removing hair. You can also get ingrown testicle hair which can disrupt your aesthetic choice of removing hair from your testicles.

What to use to remove hair from your testicles

Scissors

Scissors are a good place to start. They won’t get nowhere near close to giving you a clean shave like a razor would, but its manageable. Cut a little here, cut a little there. Maybe you just want to remove the balls of hair that have accumulated on your testicles and you can use a scissors on them. The type of scissors is also important. Don’t skip that and buy any old scissors. Your shaving your family jewels. I like to use hairdressing scissors. The blades are long and can move pretty good.

Hair trimmers or beard trimmers will work good too

Trimming is necessary to remove some of the hair but not necessary to remove all of it. See, trimmers are good for cutting the hair that is close to the skin but won’t give you a cut like a razor would. Hair trimmers can come along with guards on them that will help you determine what length of hair you are left with. They can also stop you from cutting too close to your skin.

Putting a trimmer to your ball sack can be dangerous. You’ll need a still hand. The nut sack is loose skin that will tighten and loosen depending on the temperature around it. You can end up nicking your skin badly if don’t improperly.

The surface of your ball sack can be uneven to use a trimmer on, regardless of whether it’s a hair trimmer or beard trimmer. Its best you choose the lowest guard on your trimmer and start trimming your nut sack. Remove that guard and some of that loose skin might get caught in the teeth of the clipper. You’ll end up cutting yourself.

Electric Razor

The electric razor acts almost the same as the hair trimmer. It gets really close to the skin without damaging it. And it can be perfect for ball trimming. I don’t believe they come with guards on them. So, when you use them don’t push the electric razor onto the skin.

Safety razor

Safety razor are razors that use a single razor blade. Something your grandpa used back in his day. It has its own form of a guard on the front of the blade. This stops the blade from cutting the skin too much and can help prevent any damage. But its still a razor and you’ll need to trim the hair from your balls or around your penis first.

Where in  my house can I shave my testicles?

The bathroom of course. I would avoid anywhere that has a carpet. Hair and carpets don’t mix. You’ll need someplace with a hard floor or some tiles on the floor. This way, it’ll be easier for you to clean up. So, the bathroom is the likely place. I wouldn’t try to shave over the toilet since the toilet can get clogged up with the hair. But just cut it al off on the hardwood floor and clean up after.

Two ways that aren’t recommended for removing hair on your testicles

One way that isn’t really recommended among the hair removal community is using Nair or any other depilatory cream on your testicles. They have dangerous chemicals in them. They can cause a rash and even damage the skin down there. You don’t want that. Although if your skin is strong enough many people still use it.

Waxing for men isn’t uncommon. But waxing the testicles isn’t recommended. The scrotum is nothing but sensitive skin. And waxing can be quite painful. Instead of waxing with a hot wax. You can use sugar wax. This way you can rub the wax on your testicles and sort of flick it off gently. This way you can reduce the pain.

Extra tips for shaving your scrotum

  • The scrotum should be ascended.
  • You can even try to pull the skin loosely against your body.
  • The area of your genitals that is located between the shaft and the sack can be the most difficult because of sensitivity.
  • So, if you’re shaving the right side of your scrotum, grab your scrotum with your left hand and pull it gently to the left. And that will create a tight skin surface that can be easy to shave. Just focus on this area.
  • Then do the left side by pulling gently with your right hand. And pull on that skin area till it’s a flat surface to shave on.

The last step of this process is to clean up. Every bit of hair that is around, wipe it away. If it’s on the sink table, by the toilet. Wipe it up. I believe I wrote about it up above, but I’ll write it again. You can place a garbage bag or regular plastic bag over the sink or toilet. So, when you’re shaving the hair won’t fall on to the floor.

You can just grab the bag and throw it out once you’re done. There’s nothing worse than having company over and they find your left-over pubic hairs. Even worse if you live with family or a roommate. Now you’re finished and all hair free. Throw cold water on your skin to cool the area. The water will help close the pores. Pat your pubic region dry. Apply some after-shave balm on your pubic area.

Note: I like to use an after-shave lotion with Shea butter or Aloe Vera since these things are useful for healing the skin. You can apply a body powder to the pubic area to help stop any friction that may arise. Going slow is one of the only ways you can avoid cutting yourself while shaving your balls. GO SLOWWWWWWWWW

Tips when using a dry or wet body groomer to shave your balls safely

The process isn’t that different from using a razor but here are some extra tips to bear in mind when using an electric groomer.

  1. Either stand in the bath or shower space to easily rinse away the hair after or stand over a towel to catch any hair while shaving with a dry electric groomer.
  2. Just like shaving your face with an electric shaver, you can go against the grain for a closer shave. However, with your non-shaving hand, make sure you’re pulling the skin taut.
  3. Using an electric groomer is quicker than a razor but that’s no excuse to rush the process. Take your time for the smoothest and safest shave.
  4. Although you don’t need to use a shaving cream or foam when using a dry electric groomer, I’d still recommend a post-shave treatment. This will help prevent skin irritation.

Still wet? Then pat yourself dry, don’t rub off the excess water. The hair will grow back, and it may start to itch.

You can get redness around the shaved area down there and lots of itchiness. These feelings may stop after a few days. But once you shave some more it will stop.

  1. If the itching continues, you can use some sort of cream to stop the itching. Like cortisone cream or throw some baby powder on the shaved areas that may rub on one another.
  2. You can exfoliate a day or two after you’re done shaving. Just so you can reduce your comfort. It’ll prevent any ingrown hairs. Itchiness will be significantly reduced. And moisturizing the skin with natural moisturizing lotions, look for ones that are unscented also.
  3. Some women when they shave they find that using baby oil is a great option for helping to relieve an itch or irritation sensations. You can take a trick from the women’s books that apply this tip.
  4. Another tip to prevent itchiness to take a pumice stone and rub it over every part that you shaved. This can sharpen the hair edges created by the razor blade. Thus, preventing the itchiness when they grow back.

Reasons why you would manscape?

The first reason would be your comfort. Your comfort matters the most.  How many times do you begin to itch? Has your hair ever got caught in your zipper? How long have you just left your pubic hairs untouched? And let it grow wildly.

One of the biggest reasons is to please your spouse. (I find that a lot of people such as yourself will shave your pubic hairs just for the approval of the opposite sex.) It may also come with better or more sex. A lot of men shave for attraction purposes You can have an improvement in your hygiene. Most research you would find says that pubic hair is around to reduce your chances of getting an infection around your genitals.

Also, pubic hair helps to keep your privates warm. But people would speak out against this with no real logical sense. But the things I’ve heard from men would tell me that it is more of a barrier than a good thing. Moisture can get trapped and cause even more irritation.

An overall better feeling of self. Improved hygiene with an improved sex life can give your body a testosterone boost if anything.

This can work wonders and help fight off any depression and anxiety you may be feeling.  I mean it is all based on perspective. But from what men tell me. It’s very pleasing to your spouse. And speaking as a woman, it’s nice for men to manscape.

Male pubic hairstyles

Let’s not forget about the men. The men have pubes also and can have them manscaped and shaped to their desire.

You all can also use the steps up above for shaping your pubic hairs. Whether you’ve learned to enjoy styling your pubes, I want to help you along the way.

So, I gathered a little list of manscaping styles. These are supposedly quick. Depending on your skill level and comfortability with a razor (either blade or electric).

Here are a few of the classics

The first is the mega bush. I think both men and women have been guilty of this. You just let it grow. Let it all hang out. This is preferably for colder climates, when you’re less likely to go the beach and show off some skin.

Next, we have the natural look. This is basically the megabush but trimmed. It’s a trimmed megabush. You’ll have a few clean lines here and there. But nothing to special.

  1. You’ll need to trim with scissors and a comb. Or use a barber clippers/body groomer with a guard.
  2. To use with a scissors, take the comb and run it through your pubes. Now take the scissors and cut away from the top of the comb. Hair should be sticking out through the comb.

Now we have the triangle. This is like the beginning stages of advanced grooming pubic hair designs. There is a lot shaving required for this shape. You’ll need a lot of patience and a sharp razor.

Landing strip. Its basic and a nice look. Its just one long thing line of hair right above the penis.

Leave the entire pubic hair region bare with no hair. the only thing left is an arrow pointing down or a thin strip of hair that resembles a rectangle

The baldly: this is similar to the women’s Brazilian wax. Where the women wax every bit of hair off their body. The men shave every bit of hair off with the baldly

Boy briefs. The male version of the bikini style shave. Which is wrote about up above. You can trim the hair evenly on all sides. It’s the same as the bikini style. You don’t want no hair sticking of your boy briefs, or speedo.

A lion’s mane. This style is known to bring more substance to your genital area. It enhances this area. You start by removing hair from the testicles and your shaft. But everywhere else hair is left behind.

You start by using a razor or you can wax it (if your brave enough).  And remove everything, all the hair except the upper pubic area. I always trim it a little to make it nicer. But you should leave so it has a maximum effect.

The Brazilian style: Remove every bit of hair from everywhere. You must first trim it to make it easier to cut.  Then either shave off the remaining hair with a razor or you can wax it off.

Landing strip/ Arrow: You want to leave this area bare and leave only a thin strip line of hair right on top of your genitals. This is for the landing strip. If you want to use an arrow, you’ll must use a stencil. And you should refer to the steps up above to create your own stencil if your unable to find one already made.

While your doing this, you can trim your hair a little bit so the design of the arrow or landing strip can come through more effectively. Shape the hair from around your penis by waxing or shaving it. Then remove the left-over hair and leave your design.

Problems that shaving can cause

Shaving can result in razor burn. This happens when the blade is sharp. But that’s a catch 22, what are we going to shave with, a dull blade?

You can also get big red bumps when your hair follicles are twisted and become irritated. Ingrown hairs are another problem that causes those white inflamed pimples. Or even folliculitis.

When those hairs regrow, you can be scratching all day.

There is another risk involved with waxing and depilatory creams but since I’m only speaking on “how to shave your vagina” I’m only describing your problems that may arise with shaving.

STI

Further reading: STI

This stands for sexually transmitted infections. You can get certain STIs from skin to skin contact.

Certain STIs such as genital herpes, human papillomavirus can become easier to infect you when you’re getting busy with your spouse.

The damage is done with microscopic tears, which razors are great at creating. You can either get them by ripping the hairs from the root or when you get razor burn.

Dealing with side-effects

Ingrown Hairs

Further reading: Ingrown Hairs

Those damn ingrown hairs. You can either pluck that thing with some tweezers. Contact your local doctor for help. And if you get an infection (which is a high probability) get a hold of some medicine for the irritation.

Itching and Irritation

I swear by hydro-cortisone creams when I’m feeling itchy. Not just for down there. But for anywhere. These types of creams are great for relieving that itchy irritated feeling. Itching on the outside is great for the cream, the cream doesn’t work much for the inside.

Razor Burn

Further reading: Razor Burn

Razor burn can be soothed with some Aloe Vera gel or some shea butter cream

Folliculitis

Further reading: Folliculitis

This is more common than you think. I’ve had it once and this is also a lifetime of shaving for me. I had a very mild case of it. Although there are very serious cases of folliculitis. The mild the situation I had, I treated it with some antibiotic cream that I bought from rite-aid. The intense cases I’ve heard about you’ll have to deal with some surgery and some therapy after.

Bumps and Rashes

Those bumps are also very common. I like to soak my affected body parts in some warm water. Then apply lotion on whatever area of my body is dry. I use regular unscented lotion. The perfume can irritate it even more. Because sometimes the manufacturers like to add alcohol or other chemicals to increase the scent. Those type of things can cause more irritation.

Now its time to get to the fellas. Thought I forgot about y’all. Here is a little guide I put together. I think ill call it “how to shave your pubic hair FOR men.” That’s the best I got for a title. I hope the men get a lot out of this guide. Remember to take your time if it’s your first time.

The secret weapon in fighting razor bumps after you’ve finished shaving your pubic hair

There is a product call BUMP PATROL. It’s mostly used by African American / Black men since their hair texture is what increases their chances of getting razor bumps on their face.

But I used it, just to try it. And it really does prevent any razor bumps from happening. It helps to get rid of and prevent any razor bumps from forming. It burns a little once you apply it but only lasts a few seconds. Try it out.

Common mistakes you might make while shaving your pubic hairs (TRY TO AVOID THEM)

Mistake Numero Uno: Why do you stop shaving as soon as you hop in the shower?

You’re in a rush, aren’t you? Forgot to shave the night before or the day before. So, you hop in the shower and rush through the shaving process. What you should do is find the time to shave your pubic hairs while in the shower. The heat from the water provides a way to soften the hair follicles. Makes it easier to shave and can lower your chances of irritation.

Number #2: Why do you use a shower. And stop with the old razor

When was the last time you shave with an old razor on your face? When was the last time you used soap instead of shaving cream? I know you can use it. But for shaving your pubic area, I think you would want to use shaving cream. So, do yourself a favor and use a new razor. Use some shaving cream. Because if you don’t that old razor will give you a rash or razor burn.

Number#3: You got to trim. Why don’t you?

Trimming hair is a way to prep pubic region for shaving. Those long hairs can’t be shaved efficiently. You must trim it first. That’s one of the ways that you get a smooth shaved vagina or smoothed shaved penis. It can help keep away irritation. So, if you have long hairs. Don’t just jump to shaving. Trim it first.

Number#4: Dry shaving in a hurry

No. No. No. Picture this scenario. You’re chilling at home. Friends call you. They want to go to the beach. Or maybe that “special someone’ is coming over. You need to shave, right? So, you hop in the bathroom prop your leg up and start getting to work. You don’t do any of the necessary steps before you place that razor on your vagina.

It looks good for the moment. But then a day later those red bumps start to show. Maybe if you just took a few minutes to put a hot washcloth on your vagina or penis prior to shaving and maybe put some aftershave on it. You would’ve prevented any red bumps.

Number #6: Regular lotion, really?

That lotion that you’re using might have various chemicals in it that can irritate the skin even more. See when you shave your exfoliating your skin.

You’re taking off a small layer of skin. So why put regular lotion on it. Not to mention the fragrances can irritate you also. You should be looking forward to using mild natural moisturizer or Aloe Vera/coconut oil instead of that lotion. But sometimes peoples skin adjusts, and they can use regular lotion. They can shave without cream, or exfoliating.

Number #7: You’ve got the wrong underwear.

Giving your skin a chance to breathe and recover after you’ve finished shaving is a must. For men, those nuthuggers (boxer briefs) may prove to be uncomfortable for a while. For women, those laced thongs are a no-no. Cotton underwear is the ideal choice here.

Here are some positive things about having hair removal down there.

Some you may like others not so much

  1. American is obsessed with body hair, especially removing it
  2. Your vagina or penis will a lot less sweaty (that’s always a good thing)
  3. I think I said this before, but I’ll say It again. It can look very clean to the eye and welcoming to your spouse
  4. You can play around with your pubic hair. If you have good artist skills and a steady hand. You can create some designs down there
  5. You feel freer with no hair down there while you’re wearing your underwear. And a lot less friction.
  6. For women, the fact is that when summer comes around you may want to wear some revealing swimwear. Unfortunately, almost all of your choices somewhat reveal the bikini line. Some shaving your pubic hairs can increase your options of swimwear. You can now pick whichever you like
  7. It makes for a great relationship activity. Something you and your spouse do to help each other out. You both can shave each other’s private area
  8. For men, this is probably the best thing for you. WHY? It’s a fact it can make your little friend (penis) look bigger.

You had the positives now its time for the negatives. There are always negatives.

  • Shaving it all off can make you look like a 5-year-old. Makes you look like a little kid. That is weird
  • Shaving is time occupying treatment. It’s a commitment too. Your hair will grow back. So, you’re going to have to keep shaving it. Unless you get a more permanent type of hair removal
  • If you shave it, you will probably experience ITCHING. It’ll be terrible. You’re also going to have to deal with razor bumps, razor burn, rashes, and it can be worse if you have allergic reactions
  • With shaving, you can get cut and get an infection and your skin can peel off. You were to use a depilatory cream; the smell is terrible, and your skin can have an allergic reaction.

Genital shaving F.A.Q

Guide To Shaving Your Pubes (MALE & FEMALE GENITALS)

What happens when I cut myself down there?

You can experience the dreaded nicks and ticks when you’re shaving. You start to bleeding and and depending on how deep you cut you may have to go to the hospital.

I know what you’re talking about. Those dreaded nicks and ticks. Well, fortunately for you, I wrote an entire article about this. And how you can fix those cuts. So check it out here.

Are you supposed to shave your pubes?

It’s not a case of if you’re supposed to shave them. Its if you “want” to shave them. And you Can if you want. But to answer the question. You are supposed to shave them “if you want.”

And you’re not supposed to shave them “if you don’t want.” You’re not obligated to shave down there. It’s not mandatory. It’s more of a want. But now the answer changes if you’re its part of your job. Or maybe you have an infection down there and its part of the doctor’s orders. Then maybe you’re “SUPPOSED” to shave down there.

Can you shave your private area and why is pubic hair good?

Yes, you can. But more and more studies are showing that pubic hair is there for a few specific reasons, believe it or not. Scientists/doctors have found that your pubic hairs are there for the cushion against any friction that may arise. Friction mostly caused by skin abrasion and injury.

They also found that it can help protect you from bacteria. Along with protection of bacteria, there are other deadly pathogens that it can help protect against also. For women, it can reduce their risks of getting a yeast infection. Somehow it can attract the opposite sex, also. Another reason why its good it can help you sweat less.

Why is pubic hair bad?

It can get in the way of intimate activities. It can be unattractive to the eye of the opposite sex. It can harbor a lot of harmful bacteria that can make it smell very bad.

Its not necessarily bad but it just depends on your preference. What do you like? If you want to shave down there. Then shave. If not then don’t.

What happens when you don’t shave your pubic hair?

Your hair will continue to grow until it decides to stop meaning your hair growth will be a certain length.

The length of hair growth can be similar to a FOREST.

Can you use shaving cream to shave your pubes?

Uhm, how are you going to shave your pubes if you don’t use any sort of shaving cream? Are you going to dry shave? That’s not a good idea, especially for the pubic area. So, use shaving cream. If you have shaving oil or a shaving gel, use that instead.

And if you don’t have either, guess what? You can use an alternative. Soap can work (but I recommend against this). Cooking oil is a good alternative to shaving cream. So is baby oil or coconut oil.

Can you shave your pubes with a razor?

Of course, you can. There are many other types of things you can do to remove your pubic hair. Shaving is one of them. Shaving involves using either a straight razor, double edge razor, or a multi-blade razor.

If you don’t care to shave them, then wax them, if not waxing , then use an electric body groomer

What do you use to shave your pubes?

I like to use a double edge razor, simply because I despise the use of multi-blade Gillette razors. With double edge razors, I get to use a single blade which is just enough. I can make sure they are sharp enough also.

They are cheaper that multi-blade razors. And last a bit longer. Plus, I like the feel of using some old school equipment. This is the thing men used to shave with back in the old days.

When to shave your pubes?

I find it’s better to shave at night. Or you Can do it during the daytime but when you don’t have anything else planned throughout the day. So maybe on a rainy day.

The reason is that if you’re not used to shaving down there. You Can cause a problem. You can cut yourself and start bleeding. Now let’s say you shaved in the morning and you cut yourself and started bleeding. You got to go to work or go about your day with a bloody crotch.

Also, the itchiness that you might get. If you do it at night or let’s say on a rainy day. Nothing to worry about. Night time, you’ll be going to sleep anyway. If it’s your first time. I suggest you set aside time for this. It takes patience and a lot of it. So the best time to shave your pubes is when you don’t have much going on.

What razor should I use to shave my pubes?

The razors I use, the double edge razor for sure. Its often called (safety razor). They can provide a very close shave. Or if you can get a hold of any other razor can maneuver around the corners and edges of your privates will work well.

They are easy to get the hang of once you get a proper technique going. They are inexpensive compared to its Gillette counterparts.  The blades itself are inexpensive but the actual tool itself Can be costly.

It Can also provide better control. That Can result in better results for you. The weight plus the balance of these double edge razors are designed for efficiency but also comfort.

Which way do I shave when should you shave your pubes

You have to shave with the grain. Going against it Can provide a closer shave, but there is always risks with the decisions you decide to take. Some risks may involve razor bumps and ingrown hairs.

But let’s say you play it safe and want to shave with the grain of your hair. How do you find the grain of your hair? A lot of people don’t know which direction their hair grows but what you can do is get a mirror and bring it close to your groin area and see if you can see the direction of hair growth.

You can also take a credit card, take the long edge of it and run it alongside the area down there to see which direction it’s pulling the hair up. When you do this, you should also see which direction is laying down also.

Another way you find the grain of your hair growth is to wet it. This can help. Throw some water on it. And the direction in which your hair lays in the direction you want to shave.

Do guys shave their balls?

Yes, of course, they do. It’s called manscaping. A few decades ago, it wasn’t popular. It was only mostly women that would shave. But now there is a whole industry dedicated to it.

There may be no real aesthetic reason for shaving your balls unless they’re in the modeling industry. So, the only other reason guys would shave is for their own pleasure, the pleasure of their spouse and for comfort. But men do shave their balls.

Why shaving pubic hair itches?

It itches because the edges of your hair follicles are sharp and pointy since you shaved it off. When you shave your cutting the hair follicle at an angle. So, now it’s growing back.

Sometimes the hair follicle is right by the tip of the pores on the skin.  See, when you’re shaving, you’re only getting rid of hair on the top of the skin. You’re not really removing all the hair.

Where the skin and hair follicle actually meet. That’s where you’re cutting and that’s it. The hair is still growing under your skin. See when you use a razor and shave, you’re actually twisting or switching the direction of your hair follicle. The irritation comes from your hair follicle still growing. That irritation causes the itchiness.

Certain areas on the body are more prone to getting irritated than others. So, for instance, your shave your face, but your face may not get itchy. Men shave their heads but theirs heads may not get itchy. But areas not really exposed such as the armpit, private areas, or legs, you’ll shave and have that itchy feeling.

Your pubic area is more prone to this feeling since it is mostly kept in the dark, the hair is of a darker and coarser complexion and texture. This can provide an even more uncomfortable feeling when it grows back.

After you shave, the way you take care of your skin after may cause you to itch also. Remember the itchiness comes from skin irritation. So, once you’re done shaving and YOU DECIDE to put on scented soaps, scented fragrances and other products with harsh chemicals can cause itching also.

Once I shave my pubes, how long will the itching last?

I know this question is important. So, lets dive in. First off itching isn’t caused by one source. It can one or two sources to the itching problem or it can be a combination of all. But It typically will take a while depending on your skin sensitivity. I know some people that don’t itch at all. And, it depends on how you shaved. But typically razor burn can last from anywhere of 2-5 days. If you get some ingrown hairs, then that can bother you for a couple of days also.

Regular itching caused by your hair re-growing because of the hair follicles growing at sharp angels will last for 1-3 days. Itching caused by the rubbing against tight clothes can last weeks, somewhere around 1-2 weeks. The itching is caused by the sensitive skin being rubbed up against the tight clothes and irritating it. I think it would be important to check the itching once it starts. If left untouched, you will get pimples, white heads, or skin redness.

What to do after you shave your pubes?
