Everyone today has the hair removal gene. Meaning that these aren’t the old days where you would see a person happily strolling up and down the street with a body filled with hair. Even the acceptability of women shaving their pubes has become wildly accepted but only in certain countries or continents. But in America, hair removal Is the thing.

Shaving your butt hair is now the thing to do. With men, there seems to be a growing trend of them getting hair removal on every part of their body whether it be the armpits, privates, or face. They are even getting more laser hair removal in these private areas. But that form of removing hair can be costly so, people still depend on a GOOD OLE RAZOR.

First, let’s start off with the tools for the job

If patience was a tool, then I would recommend it. But just for a little humor (I guess) let’s add it in there.

The shaving tools required for shaving for your butt hair. Some you’ll need more than others.

  1. Body electric groomer (necessary for trimming). One of my favorites is Philips Norelco Body groomer BG1026/60, its good because it can be used in the shower and shave with either side of the head.
  2. Regular razor, you try the BIC Flex 5 Disposable Razor or the Gillette Mach3 razor or safety razor (necessary for shaving). You can try WEISHI Nostalgic Long Handle Butterfly Open Double Edge Safety Razor Either one is fine. (Women can use both, doesn’t matter at all)
  3. Mirror (a handheld one)
  4. Shaving cream or shaving gel. You can even use shaving oil. I would prefer you try out Proraso Shaving Cream or Gillette Fusion ProGlide Sensitive 2 in 1 Shave Gel
  5.  Grad an antiseptic cream. One of my favorites is Derma E Tea Tree and Vitamin E Antiseptic Cream
  6. Last but not least some baby powder

Now I know what your thinking (or maybe I don’t). Let me tell you why you’ll be needing these items. Simply because we don’t do any dry shaving over here. The mirror is obvious unless you can contort your body and twist and turn so you see certain areas of your butt that others simply can’t. So that’s what the mirror is for.

The shaving gel is another obvious one. No dry shaving over here. That shaving gel, cream, or oil, whichever you choose is for a source of lubrication for the blade to glide on. I will recommend you take the gel or the oil because its clear and you be able to see where the blade is going. The gel and oil may feel a little awkward on your butt and especially in the crack of your butt when you start shaving in that area.

Maybe you have a pimple or zit on your butt and don’t want to cut that. With the cream, it’s white and it’ll cover the shaving area and won’t give you that see-through vision that you’ll get with the gel or oil. But it shouldn’t matter all too much, since the pain from the pimple or zit should be a good indicator that your blade is getting too close.

You can also look for other products that can also serve as a sort of skin treatment. So, while you’re shaving, the skin is being toned and protected. The antiseptic isn’t optional its mandatory. It will close your pores and prevent any infection. Since it’s an antiseptic it can also help with destroying any bacteria.

If you choose not to use one. The risk of irritation rises. The powder will help keep your butt dry and keep that smooth feeling. Because we all sweat down there.

And you can imagine that feeling of sweat down there. More sweat equals more bacteria, more bacteria equal harsher odor. Use body powder.

Why would you shave your Butt hair?

A lot of people have hair on their butt and even more on their anus. There’s nothing strange about it. It’s regular. It would be strange not to have any with any sort of shaving or depilatory cream.

So, relax.  But just like the pubic hairs on your genitals, it serves its purpose. Supposedly it supposed to decrease the amount of friction and the chafing you get when walking but also somehow it keeps the butt and anal area dry and well ventilated.

See, the human body has adapted and evolved over thousands of years. One of that adaptation is with hair. When men & women were cavemen, our bodies would be covered with hair.

All over. Not a hint at the bare skin at all. But now hair only grows and prospers in certain places.

For instance, take your eyelashes. The eyelash is there to prevent things like dust or flying bugs from getting in your eye. Now let’s take your armpit, for instance, the hair there is to prevent the chafing of your skin when you put your arm down.

But why would we have butt hair?

Here are some reasons. Matter of fact, there are only two reasons that I could find while I was researching

Theory 1

Humans are attracted to each other through pheromones. It’s like our own unique scent. And sometimes that scent comes from the armpits, or private area (that includes the butt).

So, your butt hair is there to capture that scent and keep it there. Which supposedly is to attract the opposite sex.

Theory 2

This seems like an obvious one. Anywhere where there is skin rubbing on each other you can get chafing of the skin.

The armpits, thighs, and butt cheeks are areas most common for this. So, your butt hair is there to prevent your butt cheeks from chafing while you go on about your day.

Its no secret that women would shave butt, or should I say we do shave our butt. Although many of us wax our butt.

Not shave. But in today’s world, a large number of men are removing their body hair and yes, that includes the hair on their buttocks. But why would men or women do this? Genital shaving is already difficult.

The obvious answer is may pressure from a spouse or if they’re in an industry where that area of the body is often exposed.

Industries such as modeling, the sex industry, or bodybuilding. Sports is a big and vast industry spanning many different athletic performers and sometimes certain body parts are revealed, either to a live audience or on TV.

Sometimes its required that the performers remove their hair. But that depends on the sport. Or some people just don’t like having hair on their behind.

Now after you read this guide, these are the areas that you are going to shave on your butt!

  1. Top of your cheeks
  2. Between your cheeks (where most hair grows)
  3. Under your cheeks
  4. The area that is close to the anus ( hair grows a lot near there too)
  5. Sides of your buttocks

How To Shave Your Butt hair

Step 1

Take that hot shower.

A hot shower is like one of the most important parts of shaving. Because it has the heat. The heat can help to open up the pores on your butt.

Your hair will soften up, making it easier to shave. For men that have been in the barber seat and gotten a close shave, the barber would always put a hot towel on your face first.

Wouldn’t they? That was too loosen up the hairs on your face by opening up your pores. It’s the same process here.

Step 2

That razor you have, make sure it’s sharp and clean.

If you’re using a multiblade razor or disposable razor, make sure you clean out the leftover hairs left from before.

You can do this by putting it under your faucet and run it through a high flow of water. If the water is hot, then its even better.

I like to run it through the bathtub faucet with some hot water, then after that I’ll pour rubbing alcohol on to it.

Now you may be using an electric groomer. Which is perfectly fine. But if you want to clean that device, you can open it up.

Maybe take a little toothbrush and brush out the stray hairs. Then you can pat it with some rubbing alcohol.

You can do this with a cotton swab or maybe a table/washcloth and wipe down the blades.

Step 3

Let’s start trimming

Trimming is an important part of shaving just as if you are shaving your genitals or your face, or any other part of your body. Obviously, razors can’t get through long thick hair.

So, if you have a hairy butt with thick coarse hair. Guess what? You have to trim that bad boy first.

Clogged razors aren’t going to do you any good. And it’ll end up being painful, because your razor isn’t doing anything, and you have to pull and tug on it. I wouldn’t recommend using scissors.

But you can use a body trimmer.

Anyone is good. Turn that bad boy on and trim of the hairs. Remember this is just a small step in butt shaving. It’s also a necessary one too.

Step 4

Lather up, get some shaving cream or gel

Take your selected shaving cream or gel. I would prefer you find a cream, gel, or even oil that you can see through.

Something that won’t cover up the entire area like regular shaving cream. So, take the gel/cream, put some in your palm and dab a little water in it also. Now rub it on to your hairy buttocks.

It’s important to note, that you put it on one your buttocks and not both.

Now the reason for this is because we’re going to do one cheek at a time. And it’s because we want to take our time and not attack both cheeks at the same time. Also, when you start shaving it.

You’re going to have to take the other hand and pull the other cheek out a bit, so you shave in the nooks and crannies.

Step 5

Let’s start shaving your ass and get rid of that hairy butt

I like to wet the blade with cold water, then start shaving. You can start by shaving against the grain.

I believe everyone’s hair grows downward when we’re talking about your butt. So, to shave against that grain is to shave upward.

Also, its better for hand movement also. If you try shaving with the grain (shaving downward) your hand will be placed at an awkward position. And its just not too efficient.

So, just go with shaving against the grain (shaving upward).

Shaving with the grain is the holy grail of shaving and its one of the most important things you can do to decrease the amount of irritation. And trust me you don’t want to irritate your butt.

But some people enjoy and have better results shaving with the grain. So, try both and see what works.

Assuming the position

The position is also important. If you went and bought a mirror-like suggest up above, then stand in front of it.

But with your butt facing the mirror.

You’ll have to twist your upper body a little bit. And you may only be able to clearly see one butt cheek that’s fine because remember we’re not doing both at the same time.

Front of your butt cheeks, Side of your buttocks, & Top/under your cheeks

  • You want to shave the sides of your buttcheeks or the front part of your butt, then you can place the razor on the bottom of your butt cheek and glide the razor upward toward your tailbone.
  • Let’s say you want to shave with the grain, then you can place the razor at the top of the butt cheek which would be by the tailbone. And drag the razor downward toward your leg.

You can use this same position to attack the front, side, top and under parts of your buttocks.

Let the weight of the razor do its work.

Don’t press down on the blade. That will cause you to cut yourself while you shave.

Make sure you rinse the blade with hot water continuously and if your option is a body groomer then clean out the hair with a soft brush.

Step 6

Between your cheeks

Now, this is like the hardest part about shaving your butt. Remember that hand mirror I recommended earlier.

Well now is the time for it to come in handy. What I like to do, and you can try this too…is lay the mirror on the floor, and I’ll have it facing up toward me.

And I’ll squat right on top of the mirror and start shaving. Since this is a new position for me to be shaving in. I’m always going real slow. Slow, gentle, and short strokes.

When you squat your butt cheeks spread slightly. This allows you to get in between without having to physically use your hands to spread your butt-cheeks.

Don’t like squatting.

Then what you can do is get good at lifting your leg. Lift one leg up, so you get in there really good.

The spot your targeting is close to the anus. Your leg is lifted, for men you’ll have to lift your testicles and do short and gentle shorts nearby the anus. You won’t be able to see much unless you position your handheld mirror slightly under your crotch.

For women, we do the same. This is a technique if you don’t want to do any squatting but it’s almost like you’re going in blind.

So be careful. If you want to have better access for shaving close to the anus, then you can lift the leg up and the other leg, you can spread it out farther from your other leg. It’s like you’re almost doing a side split with your legs.

Step 7

Wash off the leftover hairs from your butt

Shaving is finished. You’re done.

Rinse yourself off. You can pat yourself dry now. The clean towel of course. See, when you shave you’re actually exfoliating your skin and removing a top layer of skin off.

Now that you’ve exfoliated then it may be more susceptible to bacteria. A dirty old towel may introduce your skin to more bacteria at this moment.

Step 8

Don’t forget your antiseptic

This is necessary for razor bump treatment for your butt after you’re done shaving. I like to put it on right after you finish cleaning up your body after you’re done shaving.

Rub the antiseptic all over your butt and in between the crack. I would apply the antiseptic every time I shave my butt.

Step 9

Throw some powder on it

The powder is necessary to keep your bum dry and fresh hours after you’ve finished shaving.

Now that you’ve shaved your butt, there’s room for chafing and some possible itching.

So, the powder is there to help prevent it.  I like to apply that powder every day. Its mostly going to be on the inner cheeks.

Step 10

Exfoliation

You know ingrown hairs can happen on your butt, right. It’s also a result of skin irritation.

Exfoliation is the main defense against ingrown hairs when it loosens up the new upcoming hairs and cleans off dead skin cells. I like to do it for about 5 days straight. Every day.

How to shave your perineum

You’re going to need the following items:

  1. Electric razor
  2. Toner
  3. Moisturizer
  4. Safety razor

The way you can do this is standing up. Legs wide apart. It’s pretty much a yoga horse stance. But then your testicles may get in the way so, you may want to find a way to hold up your package while you shave down there. I suggest to tape it up or use one hand to hold it up. You can trim the area with your electric razor.

Then lather up with shaving cream, or foam. Take your double edge razor and go over your perineum with short slow strokes. You can start from the back, the area near your anus and work your way to the front of your genitals. Keep going over it till there is no hair.

Do you shave your butthole?

No, you don’t actually shave your butthole. There isn’t much anal hair located on the butthole. It’s mostly skin. Its like your lips.

There’s hair around your lips but not on your lips. This is how your butt hole is. When you’re lifting your leg up to shave close to your butt hole. You’ll be able to feel it.

You’ll be able to know when the butt hole is being touched by the razor blade. Since this is the opening to the anal cavity, you wouldn’t want to cut or damage this area.

Are you supposed to shave your taint?

Yes and no. That is up to you. If you want to shave it, then you shave it. It doesn’t really matter. It’s not like the hair itself serves some specific purpose. It’s just like your pubic hair. Are you supposed to shave your pubes? Yes and no. The decision is yours.

Is it normal to shave your gooch?

No it’s not normal at all. But it can be normal depending on the person. Everyone is different and they may choose to shave for themselves. Maybe it’s normal for them. What is normal is shaving your pubic area around your genitals. The gooch is an area that is mostly left untouched and forgotten.

Does everyone have butt hair?

Yes, everyone does. Unless you have a condition that prevents you from growing hair. Alopecia areata is what it called. But I believe its mostly for the head and not necessarily the pubic area.

Problems after shaving your butt (how to prevent any itchiness)

Itchiness is always a part of shaving. It goes hand in hand with it. You shave, your hair grows back and it starts to itch. I don’t know what to tell you. Oh, wait. I do, actually. There are ways you can prevent this sort of issue from happening.

Or even if it does happen, it won’t be as severe as you might expect. Some of the steps are the steps I wrote about up above. I’m only going to reinforce them since its necessary to get the idea in your head.

  • Don’t shave your skin while its dry. Run some hot water on your butt. Like hop in the shower. That hot steam can expose extra moisture, it can also open up your pores (which is a critical step in shaving). Thus, making the hair easier to shave.
  • Your butt can be a sensitive area. It’s not always exposed. So, make sure you always use a fresh razor. Using fresh razor benefits you the most since you’ll most likely lower the risk of any cross infection. If you’ve been shaving with that razor previously from on another body part, then start shaving your butt. You can nick yourself with a very tiny It can start to develop an infection. Thus, start the itching.
  • The most important part is to use some sort of cooling gel/aftershave I prefer one that has Shea Butter, Aloe Vera or witch hazel.
  • Let’s say you don’t have any of the things right above. Then you can grab some hydrocortisone cream and some salve. It’s important to do it right after shaving. See, sometimes when you shave, then you start to itch. Then you scratch, then you rip the skin and infection starts. Applying the cream right after you shave can prevent the feel and redness that is caused by shaving. I wouldn’t use it every day The skin can become used to those sorts of creams. If your body becomes used to it. Its effectiveness will no longer work.
  • There is this thing called benzoyl peroxide salve that was really used for acne treatment. But like many inventions, it’s now used for something else. Applying the peroxide to your skin can lessen the amount of irritation or razor bumps. Two things that can cause itchiness or area a result of itchiness.
  • Use shaving creams that are made of natural products or that are made for sensitive skin. Even if you don’t have sensitive skin. The shaving cream may have added certain chemicals that won’t be as harsh on your skin as on that’s labeled a “regular shaving cream.” Similar to the aftershave, some shaving cream products can have aloe Vera or Shae butter in them
    • Here’s a good tip, while you’re taking a shower and exfoliating your skin like we spoke about. You can rub your cream on your skin for up to 3 minutes to loosen up the hairs. The ingredients come together and form a sort of yield for a nicer shave. One that limits skin irritation.
  • Throw on some lotion. You should prefer to use one that is unscented, one with no fragrance. One that’s specific purpose is to moisturize. Lotions with perfume and fragrances can irritate the skin even more.
  • You can use a hair removal cream. Hair removal creams are just as good at removing hair. Plus, the itching side effect is really accustomed with shaving. Harsh smells are accustomed with depilatory creams.
